“I think that kid is right Sir“, said the excited Constable. “We checked Rahul’s call records and look what we have found“, said the Constable. The Inspector looked at the file and smiled, “Bring that Rahul to our Police Station“. The Police team went to Rahul’s office and brought him to the Police Station.
“What have I done? Why you have arrested me ?“, asked Rahul in the interrogation room. “You have killed Mrs Mishra “, said the Inspector. “What rubbish……Why would I kill Mrs.Mishra. You are cooking stories. Mishra Ji’s influential connect is giving you this pressure“, said a baffled Rahul.
The Inspector popped up a paper on the table and said, “Take a look at this …. These are your call records and your cell location. There is one number that is constant on your call list…Rita’s number“. The Inspector took a pause and asked, “What was going on between you and Rita? Also, on the day of murder you took an off from work saying you were sick. But you didn’t go to see any doctor“.
“What does this prove? Me and Rita are colleagues. We are good friends and regularly are in touch. My cell location would obviously be at home as I live in same building. I didn’t go to doctor as it wasn’t anything serious“, said Rahul . “Ohhhhh, what an explanation!! You call a colleague at 12 midnight and talk for 2 hours, just friends? I am not convinced“, said the Inspector sarcastically. He continued, “Tell us now or we will make you talk. We have sent your fingerprints to match on things found from Mr.Mishra’s house“.
“I haven’t killed Mrs Mishra, why don’t you people trust me“, shouted Rahul. The Inspector was annoyed, he looked at the Constable and said, “Make him talk“, and he left the interrogation room. The Inspector called the Lady Constable and said, “Let’s get Rita here“.
After an hours time, the Constable came out of interrogation room and said, “Sir, he is still saying the same thing that he hasn’t killed Mrs.Mishra“. The Lady Constable entered the room and said, “Sir, Rita is here!!“. “Good, bring her to my room“, said the Inspector.
“Hello Rita, I know that there is something between you and Rahul and for some reason he has killed Mrs.Mishra. It would be easier for him if he tells us the truth. Now, please coordinate and tell us the truth before its too late“, said the Inspector. Rita was nervous but she took courage and said, “Me and Rahul love each other. I know he didn’t like Mr Mishra. But, I can’t believe he could kill someone, this is not true“. The Inspector smiled and said, “Ohhhh! You love each other. But as far as I know… you have an affair with Mr.Mishra“.
“I am not having any affair with Mukund. He is my boss and has been harassing me for quite sometime“, Rita cried and continued, “I told this to Rahul and he said that he will take care of it“. “So he killed his wife and framed him“, asked the Inspector. “No, No….. he can’t kill anyone“, said Rita. “Okay, I think you can leave now. We will call you in case we need some more details“, said the Inspector.
The Inspector went back to the interrogation room and said to Rahul, “Rita has told us everything. Now, it’s your turn..tell us what happened on that day. And yes no more running around the bush. Just tell the truth“. Rahul was stunned, he took a sip of water and said, “I stole money from office and planted it at Mr. Mishra’s house. I love Rita and he was harassing her. I wanted him to go jail for fraud and we would have got married by the time he was out“.
“Oh, a new twist but I got your point! You went to plant the money. Mrs. Mishra saw you and in fit of rage you killed her?”, asked the Inspector. “No, I didn’t kill her. I went in from window, planted the money and came out quietly from same window. No one saw me“, said Rahul with full confidence. The Inspector was losing patience, he asked the Constable about the fingerprint report. The Constable handed the report to the Inspector. The report said that Rahul’s fingerprints were found on the money but, his fingerprints were no where else in the house.
