“He has not eaten since yesterday. We have tried everything. He has been crying all day“, the Constable said to the Inspector. “Let me talk to him“, said the Inspector. He went in to the lockup and asked Mukund to stand up and come with him. They took him to interrogation room and made him sit across table. “We have seen enough of your drama. Why you are not eating anything. You want to die and get us all suspended?”, asked the Inspector angrily. “I haven’t killed my wife“, said Mukund. The angry Inspector sarcastically said, “Oh ! Now you would say that you don’t have affair with your colleague Rita“.
The Inspector continued, “Do you think we are fools? Let me tell you what has happened. You were having an affair with Rita and was planning to elope with her. You committed a fraud, took the money and was about to elope when your wife saw all that money and came to know about your plan. She had a fight with you and you, in a fit of rage you killed her“. Mukund replied, ” I didn’t kill her. When I came home, she was already dead “.
The Inspector furiously shouted, “See, it will be easy on you if you accept the charges. If we provide proofs in court, then the Judge might be harsh on you“. Mukund replied again, “I didn’t kill her“. “You won’t understand easy way. Constable, don’t give him any food and keep him awake. Pour water on him if he tries to sleep“, said the Inspector and stepped out of the interrogation room with the Constable.
The Constable followed the Inspector and politely said, “Sir, why are we wasting time on making him confess. We have the motive and relevant proofs. We can easily prove it in Court even he doesn’t confess“. The Inspector smiled and said, “Please tell me, what proofs you have against him“. The Constable with full confidence spoke, “Money, what we recovered from his house“. “That can just prove that he has committed a fraud. But, how does this prove that he is a killer?“, asked the Inspector.
The Inspector took out a cigarette and said, “We don’t have any proof. We haven’t found the murder weapon yet. His cell location is from his office. No one has seen him coming back“. He lighted his cigarette and continued, “We only have a theory, that there was no sign of forced entry. No sign of fighting or physical assault. So, someone known can only do it. He had a motive due to his affair. But, you know that these circumstantial proofs won’t stand in Court of Law. Our only way to put him the behind bar is by his confession“.
“What if we find the murder weapon?“, asked the Constable. The Inspector gave a serious thought and said, “Our search party did scan the surroundings and Mukund isn’t telling the truth. How do you plan to find it?”. “Sir, DSP sir is on line. He wants to talk to you“, came in another Constable….
