An important term used in the agile world is “retrospect“. We perform retrospection activity at the end of each sprint to attain feedback / mistakes (if any). This is a good practice that we follow with our teams. But when was the last time you retrospected yourself?
As we grow in experience (intentionally not mentioning age here 🙂 ), it is important to retrospect ourselves from time to time. Questioning ourselves helps…. did we contribute to make someone successful, did someone help us to succeed, did we avoid repeating some mistake/s, did we learn something new??? Each one of us play different roles – for instance – roles of an individual, a parent, a professional, a child, a friend….and each of these roles have demands and expectations. But very rarely we pause for a while and review our past course of events.
In one of my recent conversations with my kids, I asked them about what change would you like to bring in your parents – and they said that they want us to play with them and not restrict ourselves to just their academics. This was not a difficult ask but I never thought about this fun thing. Soon after this event, each day when back from office we play Lego, listen to some fun stories, little stress on academics and have great family fun together !!
I then spent sometime on self and found that I have been avoiding myself for a while – no exercise, no hobbies… seriously ? 🙂 Oh yes, its just because we are held up with so many things – office, household stuff, kids, etc, etc … . Its time to set a plan for self and work on it!!
Practice makes a person perfect with a good retrospection plan for work and life.
So, whats your story?
